Shortages and Slowdowns: How the Pandemic Will Affect Your Thanksgiving

By Emily Peterson ’22

With the predicted amount of people traveling this Thanksgiving reaching a 13% increase, people are worrying what this large increase will entail. Will there be another surge of COVID-19, just like last year? Will vaccines help in preventing another surge?

On top of the fear of a new surge, people are worrying about the lack of food that is found in supermarkets across the country. Most of the shelves are empty and the prices are rising. The lack of delivery drivers is to blame. The field is lacking lots of workers because people are not returning to work.

The airports are another problem. Those who plan to fly this holiday may face hours of waiting to get tickets, in line, and on a plane. Because there is a lack of workers and the influx of people traveling, it may take hours waiting on hold to get tickets to see family members.

To add even more to the possible surge, lack of food, and airport slowdown, there is a large storm that threatens most of the Northeast area during the Thanksgiving week which will further slow travel. Please be reminded to travel safely and to stay safe around family members.
