Stage Right Drama Club Returns with a Unique Take on the Classic Tale of Frankenstein

By Norah Jewett ‘25

BHS’s Stage Right Drama Club is once again back to put on this year’s fall play, Frankenstein Among the Dead. This creepy show is filled with drama and horror that plays off of the classic book Frankenstein written by Mary Shelly. However, this play has its own unique spin on the story, different from every other adaptation of Frankenstein you might have seen before. It includes several new characters and a plot that derails in a terrifying direction as it swerves through unexpected twists.

The cast and crew have been hard at work on this production for a little over a month at this point ever since auditions were held on September 12th. Cast has been meeting every Monday, Tuesday and Thursday after school to read lines, block the show and develop their characters. The crew meets every Friday to build the sets that will be used during the protection, as well as making costumes and designing lighting and sound for the show.

Three cast members remarked on the progress of the show so far with under a month of rehearsal.

“We only have some lines down,” Luke Manzo (‘25), the understudy for Victor Frankenstein shares. “However we generally know where we need to be on stage.”

Brianna Gambill (‘24), playing the role of Elizabeth Frankenstein remarks on the challenges that come with the particular script they are working with. “It’s a little difficult because the script is so unspecific when it comes to blocking and stage directions.

“Memorizing both blocking and lines can be hard because it can be so intricate at times,” claims Ashton Harville-Fry (‘24), who plays Victor Frankenstein.

Despite the hardship that this show causes, the actors also share that they think the show is slowly starting to come together.

“We’ve all been working hard, and it really shows,” Gambill notes.

“The cast and crew have been great so far,” Harville-Fry adds. “I personally really like the show, it’s an interesting look at Frankenstein from the eyes of two separate characters, which gives for an interesting perspective.”

If you are interested in seeing this show on stage, the show is running on December 1st at 7:00, December 2nd at 2:00 and 7:00 and December 3rd at 2:00. Make sure you book your calendar for this creepy horror play, you won’t want to miss it!
