Beverly Boys Hockey 2024 Season Preview

By Quentin Sauvageau ‘26

As the puck drops for the 2024 winter season, the Beverly High School Boys Hockey team looks to punch their ticket to the playoffs for the first time in two seasons. Since that playoff campaign, the Panthers haven’t seen a winning season, going 8-11-1 a year prior and 3-16-1 two years prior. Being seen as a relatively inexperienced team as most of the roster has been underclassmen, now all but two skaters are upperclassmen.

The Orange and Black retain all but one forward from the year prior as the offense looks to build on the previous year’s chemistry. Starting the year, the first line will be centered by the squad point leader junior Logan Bowen with leading goal scorer and senior captain Jonny Mezza and junior Coby Malionek taking the wings. The second line with Mikey O’Leary, who leads the team in assists the previous season, with sophomore Anthony Barror and senior Connor Wallace completing the line, the two who combined for 29 points the previous campaign. Three juniors take up the third line: Andrew Murphy and Henry Mills who had 6 and 9 points respectively last season will be paired with Xander Alexeyez who is looking for his first career point. Fourth line is filled by juniors Corbin Lefavour, Matthew Rex, and Ben Walsh.

The defense looks to protect senior captain P.J. Redman in net who holds a career .871 save percentage with sophomore Tyler Chin-Aleong backing him up. The first D pairing consists of senior Captain Thomas Simeone and junior Ryan Everett as they look to keep up and keep wide the faster forwards of the conference. The bigger pairing includes junior Nate Wheeler and sophomore Teddy Fisher aim to slam opponents into the boards. The third D pairing is made up by senior Harry Motolo and junior Zach Jones.

While the outlook on last year was to improve and retool, this Panther’s team has one clear goal in mind: to finally punch their ticket to the playoffs.
