The air was filled with excitement, shock, and shrieks of joy when it was announced that Beverly High School will be advancing to the semi-final round of Dramafest with their production of The Importance of Being Earnest. Beverly performed on February 29th at Chelmsford High School with six other schools. Of those schools that performed at Chelmsford, Beverly is moving on along with Georgetown High School and Chelmsford High School. A total of 42 plays will be dispersed among 7 schools. Now, for the semi-final round, the stakes will be much higher, as only two schools will advance from each location to the final round, instead of the three that advanced from the preliminary round.
Along with the group success of advancing to the next round, select students also received awards of achievement. Actors Grace Antczak, Mia Contilli, and Connor Hathaway received awards for outstanding performance, and costume manager Faith Trefry won an award for costume design.
This is the first time in seven years that Beverly has moved on, and the cast and crew is ecstatic to be part of another day filled with theatre. “It’s great to feel like we accomplished something as a team” says Maya Cormier, a junior who has participated in the festival since her freshman year. That team feeling was clear as everyone cried tears of joy and embraced each other in continuous celebration.
