College Board Moves AP Tests Online

By Nola Minogue ’21

May 2020. Since 1955, the College Board, a nonprofit providing college entrance exams, has created and administered Advanced Placement tests for high schools students. This year, a few modifications have been made to the tests to accommodate the ongoing school closures and interruptions of content covered as a result of them.

All 38 tests have been shortened to 45 minutes- multiple choice has largely been eliminated, replaced with one or two open responses. If students by the time of their exams remain at home while school remains closed, they’ll be taking them at home. All tests, no matter where they’re taken, will be administered online.

Scores will still be released in July, and students will continue to be graded on a 1 to 5 scale. To earn college credit, a student must score a 3 or higher.
