Biden’s Presidential Impact So Far and What to Expect During His First 100 Days

By Mia Occhino ’23

President Joe Biden’s campaign for the 2020 election relied significantly on promises made to the American people, that his administration would undo unpopular and ineffective Trump-administration policies at a quick and aggressive pace. Therefore, it is unsurprising that during his first day in office, Biden signed seventeen executive orders that swiftly reversed many of Trump’s actions; these included re-joining the U.S. in the Paris Climate Accords and the World Health Organization, suspending construction of the U.S. border wall with Mexico, and ending travel bans from several primarily Muslim countries.

One main focus of the Biden campaign and administration has been taking the steps of Biden’s plan to combat the coronavirus pandemic, which is still raging through the United States as vaccines roll out at a slower pace than expected. An average of about 1.3 million doses are being administered per day, and Biden has stated that the number could soon increase to 1.5 million. He has also promised to oversee the rollout of 100 million vaccines before his 100th day in office, which will be the date of April 30. Additionally, a mask mandate has been imposed on all federal property.

Will the Biden administration be able to fulfill the 100-day promises made during his campaign as the country is continuously faced with national health and economic crises? “The sheer volume of Biden’s plans could make it a challenge to execute them all,” says NPR’s Elena Moore. “On immigration alone, he has proposed more than a dozen initiatives to complete within 100 days of taking office, a feat that could prove difficult to execute.”
