On Monday, March 15, the BHS Math Team and Science Team joined forces to celebrate Pi Day with the rest of the school. After school, they handed out pie to students leaving the building. The event brought a new air of positivity to an otherwise unenjoyable school year.
This school year has been lacking in fun events, so the Math and Science Teams worked together to organize an event that was possible even with the regulations set in place for the pandemic. The teams handed out individually-wrapped pies to students leaving school on Monday in celebration of Pi Day. “It was nice to do something nice for the school,” said Math Team Co-Captain Ali Kyrouz. This was one of the first club events of the year and comes just before seniors will start coming back to school in-person everyday. Events like this are aimed to make the year feel more normal.
With the captains of both teams graduating this year, both the Math and Science Teams are looking for new members for the upcoming year. “Science Team is a fun, positive, and supportive environment,” said Science Team Captain Maeve Gaffney. “New members are always welcome and encouraged.” The Science Team competes in group events on a variety of science-related topics. Whether you like biology, chemistry, engineering, or more, there is an event for everyone! The Math Team competes in individual rounds before joining up at the end to work together in a team round. Students can pick which rounds they want to compete in with categories including number theory, geometry, arithmetic, trigonometry, and more. “You don’t have to be good at math to join. It’s fun for everyone and you get free pizza,” said Sofia Bucco, Co-Captain of the Math Team. Both teams are always happy to have new members. To join Math Team, contact Mr. Scott.
