A Brief Recap of Paris Fashion Week

By Emma Conlon ’25

Whether you worship Vogue and look forward to Fashion Week all year or you weren’t even aware it had happened, here is a little recap and review of the nine days of Paris fashion week.

Roughly one hundred and five designers were featured, some of which being well-known names such as Chanel, Givenchy, Louis Vuitton, etc.; There were also many new brands in the industry to watch out for, such as Weinsanto and Kenneth Ize. However, out of the whole nine days of Paris fashion week, a few shows stand out in my mind, the first one being Stella McCartney. Their theme this year was called “Change the History” and featured bright neons and heavy body jewelry, which has been a trend recently. Another is the infamous Balenciaga whose runway was a mudpit. Yes, a mudpit. The theme was known as “State of Mind” and the mud helps to showcase the streetwear and creativity of the brand. The collection consisted of heavy, dark clothing along with some pops of neon accessories. In a completely different direction, however, was Thom Browne’s Cinderella themed show complete with an enormous glass slipper that “everyone can fit into” and a pink cadillac costume as the pumpkin carriage. Thom Browne is known for their attention to detail and precision and this collection did not disappoint. Dior’s “Baroque Party” show included a fun, French dress inspired by the zodiac signs, and is so unique and interesting. Zodiacs combined with high fashion couture has never been done before. And of course it wouldn’t be a fashion week recap without mentioning the viral “spray-on dress” as part of Coperni’s “Fashion Meets Technology” showcase. The iconic clip of American model Bella Hadid standing nearly naked while two men spray a white substance on her in the shape of a dress has been passed around social media and written about in countless news articles and made the internet go wild. I am no exception. The video is truly incredible and cannot possibly be described in words, you just have to see it for yourself. The sprayable liquid evaporates once it touches the skin and a fabric material is left behind. This definitely meets the theme of “Fashion Meets Technology” and will go down as an iconic moment in fashion history.
