Book Review: Daisy Jones and the Six

By Emma Conlon ’25

With the talk of the new Prime Video series Daisy Jones & the Six overtaking social media as well as almost every magazine and newspaper, I realized that not everyone has read the book yet, which is what inspired the series in the first place. The novel about a fictional rock band from the 1970s by author Taylor Jenkins Reid is one of my favorite books I have read. Reid is incredibly descriptive and imaginative in her writing, and when I first read the book I wasn’t sure if the story was true or not, if there really was a girl called Daisy Jones, and a band called the Six.

The book is written in a documentary style, and covers the rise to stardom of Daisy Jones, Billy Dunne, Graham Dunne, Karen Sirko, Warren Rhodes, Eddie Roundtree, and Pete Loving. The dark underbelly of the 70s rock era is beautifully mixed with the common ambition and naivety young people have, which makes the story relatable to the reader. The members of the band come from different backgrounds and locations, but share the same passion for music and desire for fame. In my opinion, the book is a must read, especially if you’re planning on watching the show, because it allows you to have a different perspective and view into the lives of the band members and the rock and roll period.
