The main goal of our series was to introduce and explore the clubs in school in order to inspire students to be comfortable enough to join. As we get closer to the end of the school year, it’s only fitting that our last issue should be about how many BHS students participated in clubs throughout the year. We sent out a survey to students asking about their club experience.
We asked survey participants how many clubs they participated in, and we found that the majority of students are in at least one club. Only 10% of surveyed students are in 5 or more clubs (See graphic below). The most popular clubs that people take part in would be the National Honor Society, Women’s Empowerment, and DECA.
Our findings showed that 62% of respondents have hesitated and even failed to join a club due to fear of being alone, meeting new people, being too nervous, etc. We hoped our descriptions of the club environments throughout the year would ease the nervousness of new club members and help them feel more comfortable.
We considered feedback regarding what could be done to increase the involvement in clubs. Some ideas we got included wishing we had more time after school, less school work to prioritize, more social media advertising, and more information about the clubs beforehand. Luckily, our series worked on providing thorough descriptions of clubs for students who didn’t have the information beforehand.
Hopefully, our series has been able to help inspire others to be more active and join clubs. In this last issue, we also want to thank our readers and anyone who participated in our survey!
We’ve had an amazing time diving into a few clubs here at BHS and making this series. The Red Cross Club offered amazing information and certification. The Knitting & Crochet Club was a creative outlet where cute things could be made! Women’s Empowerment helped us learn more and support women across many communities. Finally, World of Difference inspired us to make a change in our community and push for a place with no hate. Next year, we hope to reach more clubs, spread the word, and be more involved in our community. Until then, have a great summer, and don’t be afraid to be an active member of your community!
