As students returned to school from their winter breaks, many were surprised by the different sound coming from the speakers Monday morning. The bells were on time, with a new sound.
Many students were quick to give their opinion on the new bell, and I was even quicker to grab those opinions. “I have a class in the gym, and I can’t tell when class ends,” says one student. Another states that they “were late to class because [they] couldn’t hear the lunch bell.”
“The new bell may be a safety threat,” said a student. “Because it’s so quiet, it might be difficult to hear during a lockdown situation.”
Whether the bell is here to stay or not is unknown, though it is likely to stay in the students’ memories, as it has become a joke for students to state what they think the bell sounds like. The graph displayed is from a poll I did around the school.
