High School Summer Reading Begins

By Victoria de Leon ’27

As summer rapidly approaches, and with it, the looming feeling of summer assignments, selecting a book for summer reading 2024 has become crucial. Our school librarian, Ms. Fecteau, has thoughtfully created a list specified to the interests of high school students. This collection includes a variety of books, such as:

  • Check & Mate by Ali Hazelwood
  • The Wolves of Willoughby Castle by Joan Aiken
  • Everything I learned about racism I learned in school by Tiffany Jewell
  • This is Our City by Tony Massarotti
  • How to Draw a Graphic Novel by Balthazar Pagani
  • Stress Less – A teen’s guide to a calm chill life by Michael A. Tompkins
  • The Pallbearers Club by Paul Tremblay
  • The Peach Rebellion By Wendelin Van Draanen
  • Remarkably Bright Creatures by Shelby Van Pelt
  • A First Time for Everything by Dan Santat
  • Project Hail Mary by Andy Weir

If none of the books above seem appealing to you, there’s always the reliable Massachusetts Teen Choice Book Awards list that is released each year, offering a diverse selection of titles that cater to a wide range of tastes and interests, ranging from genres like science fiction to personal finance.

You are not limited to choosing from these two lists. As long as you can offer a thoughtful response to a book of your choice, you’ll do great! Your only requirement for summer reading is to provide a response of your choosing that goes beyond a synopsis of the book (a summary). Students opting for a book from the MTCBA list also have the option to submit their response through a Google Form provided by Ms. Fecteau. Summer reading assignments are due on the second day of school, Friday, September 6th, 2024. Happy reading!
