Ledger Attends Suffolk University High School Newspaper Contest

By Nola Minogue ’21

This Super Tuesday, Ledger editor Nola Minogue and faculty advisor Barbara Fecteau caught the 3:21 Depot train to North Station for the 50th annual Suffolk University Greater Boston High School Newspaper Contest. The contest and awards banquet is held every year in the university’s law school in downtown Boston. The prizes are broken into three categories- excellence in sports writing, excellence in editorial writing, excellence in news writing, and general excellence (overall writing and the layout of the page).

The Ledger submitted two editions to the contest; our October and December pages. Both pages were chosen because of their emphasis on school and community events as well as in depth editorial pieces.

Associate professor of communication, journalism, and media Dr. Richard Preiss directs the contest each year. The Ledger congratulates South Newton High School’s Lion’s Roar newspaper and staff for their wins, as well as the other schools who competed, and looks forward to joining this meeting of the minds again next year.
