Lion’s Mane Jellyfish Making an Appearance in North Shore Waters

By Nola Minogue ’21

Lion’s Mane Jellyfish have largely stayed up north- preferring frigid arctic temperatures and dark abysses. Yet now they’re traveling south and facing New England summer waters. While social distance may be making relaxing on beaches difficult enough, now there’s another life form to avoid whilst swimming. Luckily, the jellyfish, being the largest known species of jellyfish in the world, are easy enough to spot, but swimmers should still be advised to exercise caution during their beach outings.
