Los Angeles Wildfires: How You Can Help Communities Rebuild and Recover

Los Angeles has been facing a series of devastating wildfires, most notably in the Palisades area. The fires have resulted in at least 16 deaths, the destruction of over 10,000 structures, and the displacement of nearly 200,000 residents. As of January 10, the fires have scorched over 23,713 acres, leading California Governor Gavin Newsom to declare a state of emergency.

As communities rebuild and recover, various organizations are stepping up to provide crucial support. Here’s how you can help:

SoCal Fire Fund

The SoCal Fire Fund focuses on “immediate and long-term support for community-centered recovery initiatives that aid students, school employees, and families” affected by the fires. Donations directly support recovery efforts and rebuilding initiatives. You can donate to the fund here.

Los Angeles Regional Food Bank

Partnering with government agencies and other nonprofits, the Los Angeles Regional Food Bank is responding to the disaster by distributing food and other essentials. They are accepting donations of money, food, and volunteer time at their two distribution centers. You can find more information about their work here.

Baby2Baby

Baby2Baby provides essential supplies—including diapers, food, formula, and hygiene products—for children and families in need. The organization partners with over 470 schools, shelters, and hospitals across LA County. Contribute to their disaster and emergency relief program.

California Fire Foundation

This foundation supports the 7,500 firefighting and emergency personnel currently battling the fires. Donations help provide resources and assistance to first responders. You can directly donate here.

American Red Cross

The American Red Cross is offering vital support to those evacuating. Their network serves over 10 million residents across Los Angeles, Ventura, and Kern Counties. They are currently operating two emergency shelters for those impacted by the Palisades fire. Support their efforts here.

Animal Wellness Foundation

Many pets have been left behind as families evacuate their homes, and the Animal Wellness Foundation is housing and feeding these animals at a repurposed vet hospital in Marina Del Rey. Donate here.

Project: Camp

Project: Camp runs pop-up camps for children impacted by disasters. The organization is setting up camps for families displaced by the Palisades and Eaton fires. You can donate here

Pasadena Humane

This nonprofit animal shelter has already taken in over 300 animals displaced by the fires, many of whom are injured and require critical care. Donations support their ongoing efforts to provide emergency care and shelter. Find out more here.
