Because of the current pandemic, many BHS clubs and extracurriculars have paused their operations. Outreach to the student body has become more difficult, and clubs cannot meet the same ways. Despite these difficulties, though, many of the school’s clubs have been able to thrive; new clubs have even taken form in spite of challenges. One such club is BHS’s Human Rights Club, which was founded by junior Olivia Arenburg in October of 2020. Its advisor is Ms. Orr.
The club has partnered with the Beverly Human Rights Committee to effectively perform outreach into Beverly. With this aid, they’ve been able to perform multiple services within the community. Within BHS, they started the “Pass the Positivity” campaign. This encouraged teens to spread positivity throughout the student body. The Human Rights Club has also worked to send holiday cards to local nursing homes and virtual valentines to Saint Jude Children’s Research Hospital.
