Since opening in 1955, NSMT has earned a national reputation for artistic excellence and has received numerous industry awards.
Beginning on June 3, the official subscription season opens with On Your Feet!. This electrifying musical takes audiences through the remarkable story of Gloria and Emilio Estefan. Filled with high-energy songs, the production follows the couple’s journey from humble beginnings in Cuba to international superstardom. The passion, vibrant Latin rhythms, and chart-topping hits create a celebration of love, heritage, and the transformative impact the pair had on the music industry.
Next is Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat, running from July 8 through July 19. Based on the biblical story of Joseph from the Book of Genesis, the beloved musical is renowned for its blend of musical genres, memorable songs, and family-friendly appeal. The production follows Joseph’s journey from Canaan to Egypt in a humorous and lighthearted fashion.
In August, NSMT will present Rock of Ages from August 12–23. Set in 1987 on Hollywood’s infamous Sunset Strip, the jukebox musical is built around glam metal and classic rock anthems. The story follows aspiring rocker Drew and small-town girl Sherrie, whose paths cross at the legendary Bourbon Room. Their romance and ambitions are tested as the Strip faces destruction from greedy developers. Praised for its humor, energy, and iconic hits, this tribute to rock ‘n’ roll is sure to have audiences singing along.
Come From Away will take the stage beginning September 16. This uplifting and moving production brings to life the true story of 7,000 airline passengers stranded in Gander, Newfoundland, following the events of 9/11. Audiences will laugh and cry throughout this powerful tale of compassion, humanity, and unexpected connections formed during several unforgettable days.
Closing out the regular season is Phantom, a reimagining of the classic The Phantom of the Opera. The adaptation combines a beautifully crafted story with a breathtaking score that captivates audiences through passion and mystery. Set beneath the Paris Opera House, the story follows Erik, a brilliant yet tormented musical genius living in the catacombs, who falls for Christine, a young singer with an extraordinary voice. Love, destiny, mystery, and hauntingly beautiful music come together to create a timeless narrative audiences won’t want to miss.
Of course, it wouldn’t truly be a North Shore holiday season without witnessing the beloved production of A Christmas Carol. Starring the beloved David Coffee, the award-winning adaptation of Charles Dickens’ classic novella is sure to immerse audiences in the Christmas spirit. Throughout most of December, theatergoers are dazzled by the musical ghost story of the miserly Ebenezer Scrooge and his magical journey toward redemption.
During the summer, two outstanding productions will be presented by NSMT’s Summer Education Program students.
