Every year during the week of Thanksgiving, Beverly High School holds a Spirit Week. This is to generate excitement around the school for the annual Thanksgiving football game, where the Beverly Panthers play against the Salem Witches, their long-term rivals. To kick off the Spirit Week, Beverly students were encouraged to dress in the jerseys of New England’s pro sports teams. Though the week is meant to create commotion over the football game, any jersey can be worn, not just a Patriots Jersey. On Tuesday students got patriotic. Beverly High School asked them to wear their red, white, and blue to school.
On the final day of the week, Wednesday, students fully committed to their school spirit. They wore their Beverly orange and black, and the pep rally was held at the end of the school day. Students competed in various events, including a tug-of-war. There are also performances given, the most notable by Beverly cheerleaders. On Thanksgiving Day, the Panthers finally faced off against the Witches. This year, the game took place at Salem’s Bertram Field, and the Panthers won the game by a final score of 48-8.
