The Inauguration of President Donald Trump

By Jeremy Coolidge ‘28

The 60th United States Presidential Inauguration took place on Monday, January 20, 2025. It marked the second inauguration of Donald J. Trump. I was fortunate enough to attend, though, unfortunately, I wasn’t able to see him sworn in due to last-minute weather changes that moved the ceremony indoors.

From the moment I arrived at Logan Airport to the second when I returned home via Reagan Airport, I was surrounded by Trump supporters. In Washington D.C., I encountered a remarkably diverse group of people—Black, Asian, Latino, and even Amish bikers— all united under one slogan: “Make America Great Again.” It was an eye-opening visual because this isn’t the first image you’d expect to see of Trump supporters if you are only relying on the typical portrayals in news articles or rallies.

You don’t have to agree with these individuals or their beliefs, but it’s important to remember that they are your fellow citizens. They voted for what they believed was best for the country. Just as there would have been kind and well-meaning people at a Harris inauguration, the same can be true here. This is a great country, filled with great people, and we have an amazing future ahead of us, even if the outcome of the election isn’t the outcome you would have preferred.
