On the day of December 29th 2024, 39th President of the United States James “Jimmy” Earl Carter. died at his home in Plains, Georgia. Jimmy Carter was president from 1977 to 1981, and was a great humanitarian during and after his presidency. His work on human rights and social welfare made him a winner of the Nobel Peace Prize in 2002.
Jimmy Carter did many things for our country. He made strides in the Middle East between Israel and Palestine. He also made diplomatic efforts with China and Taiwan. He had an active post presidency, working with many future presidents on similar issues. He also critiqued many presidents for their shortcomings in matters such as social justice.
Considered a political outsider in the 1976 presidential election, Carter never entered DC politics. He was a Georgia State Senator and then served one term as the state’s governor. He was against Jim Crow laws, a name given to laws that limited the rights of people of color that were in effect from the end of the Civil War to 1965. He was unpopular with the Georgia legislation, and he was reluctant to engage with many of the Georgia politicians.
His state funeral was on January the 9th 2025. All flags will be flown at half staff in all government buildings across the country. The flags will also be flown half staff at the inauguration of Donald Trump on January 20th.
