While the Marching Season Has Concluded, Concert Band Picks Up

By Norah Jewett ’25

As the marching season for the BHS Panther Marching Band concluded after the final steps of the Beverly Santa Parade on Sunday, November 28, the band switched gears quickly to concert band. The winter concert for the music department is approaching rapidly. The songs being played by the band this year are: “Triumphal Ode” by Howard H. Hanson, “Autumn” by Cait Nishimura, the ever-favorite “Sleigh Ride,” and “Hallelujah Chorus” performed by the entirety of the music department.

Students share their thoughts on the ending marching season:

“I’ll miss marching a lot, but I really look forward to concert band,” freshman alto saxophone player Cadyn Hollingsworth states.

“It’s bittersweet,” pit percussion member Mary Demsey says. “I love concert band, but I’ll really miss playing in the stands.”

Now that games and parades have come to a halt, uniforms have been hung up for the time being, flip folders and lyres stored away, and drill masters stashed in closets. Juniors, sophomores, and freshmen await the next time they can don the orange and black uniforms and march next year. Seniors, although saddened by the fact that this was their last marching season, are looking forward to this year’s concert band music.
