Winter in Beverly: How to Survive

By Emma Conlon ’25

Now that the holiday season has officially ended and midterms week is upon us, it’s inevitable to feel unmotivated and lethargic. For seniors, it’s even more difficult to stay focused during the frigid months of winter. Personally, I find that around January, it’s increasingly difficult to complete my schoolwork. I think bears are onto something with hibernation… Unfortunately though, life goes on, and as high school students, we have to keep up. And lucky for us, we live in a beautiful coastal town in Massachusetts, so the winter can’t be that awful. Here are my biggest tips to surviving the months of January to June in Beverly.

Ice skating is a classic winter activity, and what better place to do it than Boston Common? It makes for great pictures and is a memorable experience. If you don’t have the best balance and prefer to stay warm inside, however, shopping is always a good idea. There are endless cute spots to thrift, or buy new. I love a good day trip to Boston and maxing out my credit card, but Beverly also has a great downtown with the cutest shops like Worthy Girl and Copper Dog Books. While you’re on Cabot Street, Clay Dreaming is a relaxing place to be creative and gossip with friends. On your way, you should pick up an iced coffee or a matcha latte from one of the billions of coffee shops in Beverly. As much as I love the summer months, winter isn’t all that bad, especially when you fill your time with entertaining and cute outings and adventures.
