5 Fall/Winter 2020 Fashion Trends That You Can Wear Now

By Mia Occhino ’23

As we move through the autumn season to winter, it’s time to reevaluate our closets and bring out the cold-weather clothes. Here are some fashion trends that are appearing everywhere on social media, and where you can purchase similar pieces.

PUFFER JACKETS

A classic winter staple, puffers are sure to be seen everywhere this season. The Fall-Winter 2020 collection from Jacquemus includes simple color palettes filled with elegant pieces such as the puffer jacket seen on the right.

One puffer jacket that has maintained popularity over the last few years is the TNA Super Puff, (left, $250) a goose-down jacket available in several lengths ranging from short to long.

PATCHWORK PRINTS

Patchwork prints in all items of clothing ranging from tops to dresses and pants have seen a resurgence in the past few months, from the runway to social media platforms. Different colors, shapes and fabric combine in these interesting statement pieces.

The most popular use of patchwork on social media this season has been in long-sleeved tops, usually featuring ruffled necklines and visible stitching in vibrant patterns and colors. The top seen on the left can be purchased from Princess Polly ($28).

OVERSIZED SWEATER VESTS

Though sweater vests of varying sizes have been increasing in overall popularity since the spring, currently the most common way to style this fall staple is with an oversized fit, usually worn over a dress shirt. Vests with minimal and neutral colors, or simple designs such as the houndstooth pattern seen on the left, along with a white dress shirt underneath, create a classy look from two conventional items. Sweater vests can be found in thrift shops or secondhand stores, and you may have one in your closet already.

A similar style of vest to the ones shown in the pictures is this white rib-knit sweater vest from H&M ($29.99).

FUZZY BAGS

Like many fashion items that were in style during the 90s and 2000s, fuzzy and furry bags have made a comeback. Some have bright colors, and many include animal prints such as zebra (left) and leopard prints (right). Neutral animal prints pair well with muted colors, especially brown.

Animal printed bags can be purchased from individual sellers on apps and websites such as Depop and Ebay. A bag similar to the one shown on the right can be purchased here from Lolita Jade ($64).

BLAZERS

Leather blazers in all colors and styles are perfect for layering this fall. Because wearing clothing made of real animal material is not ethical for many, we recommend purchasing a faux leather blazer or only buying real leather from a thrift store or secondhand. A blazer similar to the Rosetta Getty one worn by Bella Hadid (who is also wearing an animal-print purse) on the right can be purchased here from Zara ($119).
