A mansion from the Gilded Age in Beverly Farms has been sold for over $18 million. The 28,000 square foot Georgian revival with a private beach is the second most expensive home sold on the North Shore. The estate, known as Rocky Edge, was built in the early 1900s for Marian Sargent, who is the great-great-granddaughter of Thomas Jefferson. It was later passed down to Eleanora Sears, her niece, a sportswoman and socialite who is inducted in the international Tennis Hall of Fame. The mansion has recently been updated but still has much of the vintage style and elegance of the Gilded Age. It has a stunning waterfront view as well as a private beach and gardens designed by Frederick Law Olmsted, one the greatest landscapers in the United States. The mansion has 11 bedrooms, 12 bathrooms, a formal dining room, a music room, game room, and even a cabana by the private beach. It’s estimated that to recreate the home today would cost about $40 million. This is arguably the most unique home here on the North Shore and has been a hot topic here in Beverly.
