Spring Activities in the Greater Boston Area

By Amelia Jewett ‘27

As the winter comes to a close and the snow begins to melt, everyone begins to grow anxious for the sweet feeling of summer. But before we get there, we must first trek through spring. The rainy months where the temperature can be thirty degrees one day and sixty five the next aren’t always everyone’s favorite. However, there are countless activities and opportunities around the North Shore and Boston to spice up a traditionally gloomy New England spring.

  1. Boston Marathon

On the 3rd Monday of April comes one of the most famous races in the world. People come from all over to watch the best athletes in the world journey from Hopkinton, MA to Boylston Street in Boston. There are countless places along the route you can set up, bring food, and cheer on the amazing runners.

  1. Red Sox Game

Nothing says spring time more than a baseball game. The Boston Red Sox opened their season on April 4th. A trip to Fenway park is sure to be a worthwhile experience while also not breaking the bank. You can go with friends, eat classic stadium food, and buy some merch along the way.

  1. Museums

Boston, as well as the New England area, are well known for the plethora of museums at our disposal. For families, the Science Museum, New England Aquarium, Ice Cream Museum and the Children’s Museum are great options. For those more interested in art, the Museum of Fine Art and the Isabella Stewart Gardner Museum are must sees.

  1. Whale Watch

Who doesn’t want to feel the salty air out at sea and catch sight of whales while you’re at it? The north shore area has countless opportunities for whale watches. Finding one is not difficult but the time of year you reserve your tour can matter when it comes to spotting one of these creatures.

  1. Long Hill

In Beverly, the estate run by the Trustee’s is a perfect spot for a picnic or an afternoon walk. There’s gardens, trails, and even seasonal activities. It is sure to get you in your summer feels and is perfect for a sunny spring day.

  1. Freedom Trial

The historical richness of Boston can be appreciated in its fullest when the weather is just right. Without the intense summer heat, you may enjoy the 2.5 mile walking trail that will tell you the story of Boston and the American Revolution.
