The BHS Freshman Football Boys soundly defeated Essex Tech, 20-0, at Hurd Stadium on September 17.
With the shutout win, the players notched the first win of their high school careers.
“We worked well together as a team,” offensive lineman Sam Henebury ‘30 said. “We had great execution on our plays.”
The Panthers’ physical style of play was the key to victory.
“We take a lot of time to work on tackling,” Freshman Coach Mr. Verry said.
“Our emphasis manifested in stopping the Tech from breaking any long runs, ultimately keeping them out of the end zone.”
After a bye week, the freshman Panthers will face the Peabody Tanners at Veterans’ Memorial High School on Oct. 1. Going forward, the Panther boys will look to continue playing harder and blocking and tackling better than their opponents.
“At this level,” Coach Very added, “sometimes that’s all it takes.”
