Our Favorite Genovian Royal is back? Anne Hathaway recently posted a video on Instagram announcing the development of The Princess Diaries 3. In the caption, Hathway states she is going “Back to Genovia…” The post states that the film will be directed by Adele Lim and produced by Debra Martin Chase, and is scheduled to start filming in 2025. The plot is being kept under tight wraps currently, yet it has been addressed that the movie will be a continuation of the previous two The Princess Diaries movies and not a reboot. Since the announcement, fans across all social media platforms are expressing their excitement for the movie.
Previously in interviews, Hathway had mentioned how she would be excited to be a part of the franchise again, but the process of filmmaking is a “..process that requires patience…” But our wishes came true and the news came to light in October. Although the princess is sure to return to Genovia, we are unsure of the fate of the previous queen of Genovia (previously played by Julie Andrews) and the princess’s love interest (Nicholas Deveraux played by Chris Pine) in the movie. Julie has mentioned that she’s unsure that it would be a necessarily good thing and that “…sometimes it’s best to leave a good thing alone.” Chris Pine said he would have to see if he would come back, and stated, “I don’t know anything about it. I think it’s fantastic.” So it’s not yet confirmed Princess Mia’s grandmother or partner will be back for a third movie, but we’re hoping they’ll turn a new leaf to the idea.
And that’s all we know so far about The Princess Diaries 3!
