Delphine’s Kitchen: A Taste of France in the Heart of Beverly

The once empty space on Cabot Street, previously Cassis Bakery, has become Delphine’s Kitchen! Owned by Delphine Minogue, a french crêperie has been brought to life here in Beverly. Filled with different flavors of crêpes (strawberry chocolate, honey butter, banana and chocolate, etc.) baked goods like berry tarts, banana bread, croissants, and bowls like the curry chicken I was lucky enough to try that was filled with flavor, this is going to be your new go-to spot. Perfect breakfast, lunch, an afternoon treat, you name it. Delphine’s Kitchen has it all. I sat down with Delphine and asked her all about her new business venture, which is sure to be the next budding storefront on Cabot Street. 

  1. What inspired you to create your own crêperie?

“I always wanted to have my own place since I was little, and I had this idea a long time ago with my sister, who still lives in France, to open a crêperie.”

  1. How has growing up in France influenced your business?

“I grew up in the South of France in Le Grau Du Roi. We had lots of friends who owned restaurants when I was growing up, I always hung out in kitchens and restaurants. And then went to culinary school! I started culinary school when I was fifteen, it’s like a vocational school. After that, I went to culinary school for college.”

  1. Did you know you wanted to own your own business at that time?

“In college? No, I just did my thing, I was just thinking about having fun! I just wanted to travel the world and learn languages.”

  1. What are you most excited for people to try on the menu?

“Everything! Nutella crêpes are my favorite because it’s my childhood memory. In France, a typical after school snack is crêpes, and I always made a nutella crêpe. It’s the kid’s taste in me.”

  1. What does it mean for your business to be zero waste?

“It is one of the most important things to me. I will not be opening my business without it being suitable, I think all businesses should try their best to recycle and compost.”

  1. Other than crêpes, what other French items are you offering at Delphine’s Kitchen? 

“We have French cakes and cookies, we have a ratatouille bowl. We will have prepared meals as well, for grab and go.”

  1. I saw some French drinks on the menu? What’s that all about?

“The French drinks are amazing!​​​ They are pretty much a syrup, but a really yummy syrup that you mix with water and add fruit.”

  1. How has your family and the community helped you with starting your business?

“It is a family business, everybody works together. My husband (Rob) is more behind the scenes paperwork guy, my daughter (Nola) is marketing. Solenn (daughter) helps with drinks and things like that. A lot of my friends came to help, holding a paintbrush or building something for me at 2:00 in the morning sometimes. Everybody chipped in and showed up whenever they could.”

  1. How was the interior of Delphine’s Kitchen French influenced?

“Well I am from the South of France, and it will reflect in a bit of everything you see. By the color tone, tiling, our funny bathroom. Everything has been reused, pieces we find in different places and just cleaned up and painted. We are sustainable and try to reuse as much as we can before we buy something new. One of my friends actually found the chairs and cleaned them up and then painted them beautifully.”

  1. What has been the most challenging process of opening your own business?

“Well, it’s certainly been overwhelming, by the amount of work there is behind the scenes. We pretty much gutted the whole front and had to do all new plumbing and electricity. Then we had the walls and ceiling back together and installed new counters, getting  contractors and vendors organized has certainly been challenging. But we’re doing it!”

  1. What has been the most rewarding process?

“Seeing the process, everyday there is something new that comes together that brings a smile to my face. Having my friends pop by, or neighbors here on Cabot Street is the highlight of my day. My old team back together, Ariana, Gina, Karen, Lindsay, we’ve all worked together before. Lots of women. Mom power!”

  1. What do you want your community to know about Delphine’s Kitchen?

“That we are sustainable and that we care about our community, that we are a part of this community. We all live here, my kids grew up here, my fellow worker’s kids grew up here, so we are a part of Beverly.”

Delphine’s Kitchen opens at the end of March, and you’ll be enchanted by your first visit. Delphine’s crêperie truly is a slice of France here in Beverly.
